My path into physiotherapy and strength

From physiotherapy in India to movement education in Ottawa. Here’s how my approach came together.

Explore my LinkedIn profile
  1. India

    A foundation in physiotherapy

I completed a Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy in India, laying the foundation for my approach to rehabilitation and movement.

  2. Algonquin College · Ottawa

    Bringing health and fitness together

I later continued my studies in fitness and health promotion at Algonquin College, connecting physiotherapy knowledge with strength and practical physical preparation.

  3. Physiotherapy assistant & resident roles

    Learning through clinical practice

My professional path has taken me from early clinic experience and physiotherapy assistant work to resident physiotherapy roles.

  4. Ontario

    Registered Physiotherapist

Today, I work as a Registered Physiotherapist in Ottawa, bringing movement education and an individual approach to care together.

  5. Clinic leadership & movement education

    Sharing movement beyond the clinic

My path has also included clinic leadership. Alongside my clinical work, I’m building Fit with Nishika to share clear, practical movement education beyond the clinic.

How I think about movement

Clear explanations, a manageable next step, and room to adapt.

Understand the person, not just the sore spot.

Pain and movement concerns can affect people differently. I’m interested in what someone wants to get back to, what they have already tried and what feels manageable in their day.

Make the next step clear.

I value explanations people can understand and exercises with a clear purpose. A plan should make sense to the person doing it.

Build gradually.

Strength and confidence develop over time. Progress can be adjusted as goals, symptoms and capacity change.

Stay curious and evidence-informed.

I keep learning and use clinical reasoning to choose an approach suited to the person in front of me. Online information can be useful, but it cannot replace an individual assessment when one is needed.

Areas of professional experience

My experience includes musculoskeletal physiotherapy, vestibular and concussion rehabilitation, temporomandibular (jaw) concerns, neurological rehabilitation, care for older adults and exercise-based rehabilitation.

  • Musculoskeletal care
  • Vestibular & concussion rehabilitation
  • Jaw-related concerns (TMD)
  • Neurological rehabilitation
  • Care for older adults
  • Exercise-based rehabilitation

These describe areas of experience, rather than specialist designations. Individual care begins with an appropriate assessment.
